A saffron subscription makes sense if you cook with saffron 3+ times a month or run a small kitchen/restaurant. For most home cooks, a single 2 g bottle every 6–12 months is more cost-effective than a monthly recurring order.
The dose math
Average home cook uses ≈ 0.1 g saffron per dish. A 2 g bottle = ~20 dishes. If you cook with saffron once a week, 2 g lasts about 5 months. If once a month, it lasts ~20 months.
Editor's note
A sealed bottle kept dark and cool holds its strength well past a year, so "subscribing to stay fresh" is rarely the deciding factor. Let your actual cooking pace — not the calendar — set your restock rhythm.
When subscription wins
- Restaurants, bakeries, cafés
- Tea companies and bartenders
- Households that drink saffron tea daily
When one-time wins
Most home cooks. Buy 2 g, store it well, restock when it's down to threads.
